What to expect at The Cotuit Federated Church
What should I wear?
Some people wear jeans, others prefer to dress up a bit. God doesn't have a dress code, so come join us in clothes that make you feel most comfortable.
What should I expect when I arrive?
One Sunday of the month, we gather at 9 to eat pancakes together. No charge, just a free will offering.
People usually begin gathering in the worship space around 9:45 to visit and find a seat. Two times a month we sing our favorite hymns around this time. Worship begins at 10:00 with announcements, prayer requests and passing the peace. Passing the peace is an ancient Christian ritual where we first offer peace to those around us.
Are my children welcome?
We are a congregation that genuinely loves our children! For parents who are more comfortable, childcare is available beginning at 9:45 down in our Nursery. Our children worship with us for the beginning of the service (approximately 20 mintues) and are excused for age appropriate Bible-based Church School curriculum after the Children's Time.
Occasionally, we have intergenerational worship, which means our children worship with us for the entire service.
What is the service like?
We sing a mix of the songs of our Christian tradition and songs of all kinds that move us. We pray together using prayers that are written in the order of service and prayers during times of silence. The sermon or meditation is a time of learning and growing and is always rooted in scripture from the Bible. Our worship is never exactly the same but it is always rich and tends to last about one hour.
What happens after the service?
Immediately following worship we gather in our fellowship hall for coffee, snacks and conversation. Everyone is invited to this time and we visit as long as we like!
What kind of people are a part of the Cotuit Federated Church?
We are a mix of young and old, single and married, working and those who are retired, new Christians and people who started the walk with God long ago. We believe different things about Jesus, God and the stories of our faith in the Bible, but we are all committed to following God together so we might grow in our love of God and one another.
